Zermatt - SWITZERLAND

We embarked on a journey to Zermatt, our next destination, involving three train rides. Maneuvering our heavy luggage presented a challenge, but the scenic train journey, especially the final stretch from Visp to Zermatt ascending to 1600m, made it all worthwhile. The landscape transformed into a winter wonderland with snow-covered grounds and towering mountains, leaving us breathless. Lynette and I couldn't help but exchange smiles throughout the picturesque ride.

Upon reaching Zermatt train station, a hotel manager warmly welcomed us, addressing us by name. Puzzled, I inquired how he knew, to which he simply replied, "I just knew." Thus began our extraordinary stay at the charming Hotel Romantica. The manager graciously collected our luggage transported us to the hotel in a quaint van, as Zermatt has no cars, only mini vans owned by various hotels.

During check-in, Tor and Christina, the hotel staff, inquired about our preferences for activities. Eager to see the Matterhorn, I mentioned it right away. Christina suggested a pathway behind the hotel for an immediate view, warning that the next day might not offer clear visibility. Taking her advice, we explored the path after settling into our very cosy room.

The Matterhorn, standing at 4,478m with its distinctive pyramid shape, is hailed as the epitome of a mountain. It holds the title of the most-photographed mountain globally, a myth, emblem, and Switzerland’s iconic landmark.

Fulfilling a bucket list dream, I was able to capture photos of the Matterhorn during our walk. As it turned out, it was to be our last opportunity due to subsequent snowfall. Christina's foresight proved accurate. We didn't mind, as witnessing snowfall for the very first time in our lives added another amazing experience to our list. We were ecstatic! We embarked on numerous snow treks, relishing the delightful sensation and sound of the snow crunching beneath our feet.

Zermatt transformed into an enchanting winter wonderland, offering picturesque scenes at every turn. The challenge lay in narrowing down the multitude of photos taken during our stay. As you'll see below, it was a delightful struggle to select the best shots. Enjoy the visual journey!

As a bonus, there's a charming video at the end featuring Lynette joyfully walking in the snow.

Our next stop for Karp's On Tour is Venice, Italy!

Hi Stefanie,
Thank you for your kind words. I was over the moon to be able to capture the Matterhorn in such a short space of time we had before the weather changed.
