A unique combination of scenic Alpine landscape and the architectural richness of medieval, baroque buildings has led to Salzburg's reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly concur! Our journey to Hohensalzburg Fortress involved a remarkable steep ascent, a definite highlight of our Salzburg exploration. The panoramic vistas of the city and the surrounding snow capped mountains from atop were simply breath taking. Upon entering the fortress, melodic strains of Christmas music greeted us, guiding our path to a quaint Christmas market nestled within. The ambience within this medieval fortress was surreal—a true 'pinch me' moment. Returning to the city below, we encountered numerous captivating Christmas markets awaiting our exploration. The air was filled with the enticing aromas of mulled wine, toasted almonds, hot roasted chestnuts, and freshly baked apples, while the vendors' offerings of gingerbread hearts, nativity...
